Maureen Gates, B.Sc., M.Ed.
Registered Speech Language Pathologist

Maureen has extensive experience supporting children and youth with speech and communication difficulties, particularly in school and on-reserve settings across Northern communities.

She is deeply committed to improving access to culturally respectful, strengths-based speech-language services for youth living in rural and Indigenous communities.

Maureen has spent several years working as a school-based speech-language pathologist, collaborating closely with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams to support students’ communication, learning, and social development.

Her clinical interests include social communication challenges, particularly as they relate to social anxiety and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). She brings a thoughtful, practical approach to therapy—helping youth build confidence, connection, and functional communication skills that translate into everyday life.

Known for her calm, grounded presence, Maureen prioritizes relationship-based care and tailors her interventions to each child’s unique strengths, environment, and cultural context.

She values collaboration with caregivers and communities to ensure therapy goals are meaningful, realistic, and sustainable.

Outside of her clinical work, Maureen embraces country life, spending her downtime with her partner and their farm animals. This connection to rural living informs her down-to-earth approach and deep respect for the communities she serves.
