Frequently Asked Questions

We are happy to answer any questions that you might have. We will listen, then walk beside you.

Yes! We direct bill to a wide variety of health insurance companies. We direct bill to Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB), First Nation Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB), Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP), Alberta Blue Cross, Sunlife, Medavie Blue Cross, Canada Life, Manulife, Alberta School Employee Benefit Plan (ASEBP), Maximum Benefit, Green Shield, Victim Services, and several others. Some companies don’t allow direct billing, but our services are still covered when you submit them independently. Feel free to give us a call or book a free consultation if you want to discuss your specific health benefit coverage.

No, you do not require a referral to access a psychological assessment or mental health counselling. However, we do encourage you to talk with your doctor about your symptoms and about your intention to access therapy. It is beneficial if your health professionals can work collaboratively (with your consent). There may be circumstances in which mental health symptoms are caused by hormonal or physiological ailments, so collaboration can be key.

Fees range from $100 to $235 per hour, depending on your provider’s qualifications and the type of service you’re looking for. Many people have benefits that cover part or all of the cost, and therapy with a registered professional is tax-deductible as a medical expense.

We require 24 hours notice to cancel your appointment. Otherwise, 50% of the session fee is charged. For example, for a Friday 3:00 PM appointment, please cancel by Thursday 3:00 PM.

There are multiple ways to cancel your appointment:

Your therapist has reserved a time just for you! We want to ensure that we can help as many people as possible, so notice is required for us to call clients who are on our waitlist.

Your appointment time is reserved just for you! Notice helps us offer that spot to someone on our waitlist. We understand that life happens, and emergencies and illness arise. Please call as soon as possible. Your therapist will determine if the cancellation policy will be utilized.

Yes! Several team members are approved providers for NIHB/FNIHB and Jordan’s Principle.  We offer culturally sensitive counselling at no cost to eligible clients. Our Indigenous counsellors and staff are well-versed in Indigenous Psychological Services and the impacts of Indian Residential Schools, Indian Day Schools, Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women, and intergenerational trauma. If you’re wondering, we’re happy to complete the required paperwork with you. We’re honoured to walk with you and support you in all stages of accessing support.

Sort of. Because we do not wish to inquire about your income for the purposes of accessing counselling, we do not offer a true sliding scale arrangement. We DO, however, offer low-cost counselling services provided by practicum students. We are also open to having a conversation with you if you are struggling financially and accessing counselling would cause further financial hardship. We can explore this during your initial consultation and may connect you with funding options or free/low-cost services if that is most appropriate for your personal situation.

Bring your questions into the circle. We’ll listen, then walk beside you.
